Location: Atlanta, GA (temporarily remote until Q1 2022 due to COVID)


This position will be a new and welcomed addition as Black Feminist Future’s innovative organizing, leadership development, and movement building work grows and membership launches. The Director of Power Building will be visionary, innovative, an implementer, an organizer, a strategist, and team player grounded in a Black feminist praxis. 

About Black Feminist Future 

Black Feminist Future (BFF) is an initiative informed by the legacy of Black feminist organizing, grounded in the current pulse of movements, and located at the emergent need to amplify the power of ALL Black women and girls in organizing and building power for the 21st century. BFF is a movement incubator that focuses on the dynamic possibilities of galvanizing the social and political power of those who have the lived experience of being a Black woman or girl including  but not limited to trans, cis, gender non conforming, non binary, LGBTQI, and other gender marginalized  people. Position Summary

The Director of Power Building (DPB) will drive the organization forward with extraordinary passion and focus toward a powerful vision of long-term material and structural changes,  ambitious and strategic campaigns, policy, communications, and power-building goals. The Director of Power Building will direct, develop and manage BFF’s organizing and campaign goals, activities and outcomes.  The DPB will hire (as needed) and cultivate a team of talented staff to develop and align issue campaigns, policy, movement politics, communications, power building, and leadership training.  The Director of Power Building will direct organizing plans to recruit and develop a powerful, active, Black feminist base, and develop a sustained and democratic organization among the developing leadership and membership bodies of BFF. 

This is the dream job of someone who is innovative and wants to be at the forefront of an organization deeply committed to building power at scale through organized people, money and ideas that centers Black women, girls and gender expansive people’s experiences.  This position reports to the Deputy Director and works in partnership with a leadership team to provide strategic direction to the organization.


  • Building power & winning campaigns -  build responsive and strategic campaigns that integrate advocacy, communications, and organizing that builds the political, economic and narrative power of Black feminists to win. Think long term and big. Train and direct staff to help us win through the following: 
    • Campaign development, including scenario, strategic and tactical planning
    • Member recruitment and retention 
    • Democratic processes to involve members and strategic partners in decision-making, planning and execution of  BFF campaigns
    • Leadership development and political education of members & strategic partners. 
  • Build support for our work through institutional fundraising & development including: developing and identifying new streams of funding, assisting in proposal writing, and maintaining extensive records on quantitative and qualitative metrics for grant reports.
  • Invest in staff leadership - support, train and develop staff with a sharp vision, clear responsibilities, deep relationship building and coaching.  This role will directly supervise the Senior Organizers of Individual Membership, Organizational Membership & Partners, and Campaigns.  
  • Assist in setting strategy and goals. Work closely with senior staff and board to develop, articulate and track overall organizational strategy, goals, and plans.

Build and maintain relationships with strategic partners, donors and key allies. Represent BFF with a variety of audiences in accordance with those values and meridians.

The ideal candidate should have the following experience and qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years experience working with community, labor, or electoral organizations where you had success in developing and winning campaigns. Similar level of experience supervising staff, with a strong track record of building teams and developing staff leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational communication skills.
  • Management training and experience.
  • Institutional and individual fundraising experience.
  • Commitment to racial, gender and economic justice and their intersections.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly.

This position is located in Atlanta, GA. Due to COVID19 this role will be remote with the expectation that the candidate relocates to Atlanta. A relocation stipend will be provided.
